Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

Bohol Bee Farm aims to build a business based on its contribution and value not only to the environment but also to the local culture and crafts.

The Bohol Bee Farm is an organic bee (honey), salad, vegetable, and flower farm which prides itself on its environmental practices in order to do their bit in helping to protect the local surroundings. All the staff working here radiate friendliness, and are committed to the well being of guests, as well as their local environment. Be sure to check out some of the great local organic food grown and served onsite!

The owner, Vicky Wallace, even provides tours for the local community and visitors to help them to see how they too can work to preserve their surrounding with simple environmental practices, such as composting.

Not only do they practice organic farming methods, but they help to educate surrounding farmers to avoid costly products such as pesticides, fertilizers, and the like. However Vicky and her team also see that farming can be hard work, especially for some of the locals. To this end, they believe in giving back to society and sharing their knowledge in order to encourage the production of other local crafts, and helping them to market them in a way that provides sustainable incomes due to tourism.

It sources local produce and staff wherever possible. They have also created workers cooperatives featuring traditional Boholano and Filipino handicrafts that are sold in the gift shop.

The Bohol Bee Farm operates by the motto:

"We ardently support an agricultural development that leads to healthier soils and diverse agricultural ecosystems, conditions that help promote a better environment. One that we hope would be populated by a happier and healthier people."
